St Mary with St Ethelbert Luckington

Luckington parish church is a beautiful building set on the outskirts of the village. The church and nearby hall were used to film the BBC's 'Pride and Prejudice' and the church is a popular venue for weddings.

The south arcade of dates to about 1200 and is similar to others in the Group, with trumpet-scallop capitals.  The north tower was built later in the 13th century although a Perpendicular top was later added.  The south chapel, similar to those at Luckington and Sherston is Early English; fine but ‘over-restored’ by Blomfield.  The nave and south aisle are Perpendicular, the north porch 18th century and the chancel of 1872, also by Blomfield.

The massive font is Norman and was once locked against witches.  Comparable to that at Foxley, there is a stone reredos, and a stone pulpit which might be 18th century.  The east window of the 1880s is by Kempe, and there is later glass by Kempe & Tower.

The Bristol Avon rises in the Parish at Hancock’s Well.
