The Jews don’t have the power to officially sanction Jesus’ death, they need the Romans. The greatest power on the face of the planet, the symbol of civilisation and perfection, is the one that makes the call. But Jesus presents a new way for humanity, a new perfection, the ‘second Adam’ as Paul puts it… “just as sin entered the world through one man… how much more will people reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ”. One perfect man providing one perfect way.

Lord Jesus, you were condemned through unbridled injustice,
change the minds and motivations of oppressors and exploiters towards your way of peace.
Holy God,
holy and strong,
holy and immortal,
have mercy upon us.
