Station 6: before Herod
Pilate discovers that Jesus is a Galilean and defers to Herod Antipas, who had jurisdiction over that region. Herod is canny and shrewd, power-loving and career-minded - he is curious and quizzes Jesus who is not forthcoming. Jesus stands in the middle of the temple and is mocked and scorned. Earlier in his ministry, Jesus, on facing such questioning, had replied: “destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days”.

Lord Jesus, you were mocked and not believed.
Be with those who face ridicule and are not listened to.
Soften the hearts of those who cannot hear your truth,
and give us open ears and eyes to look for the signs of your resurrection.
Holy God,
holy and strong,
holy and immortal,
have mercy upon us.
